Beginner photography courses are designed to get you off your camera's automatic settings and starting to explore your creativity.
In a beginner photography workshop you should expect to learn about:
• Composition
• Lighting
• White balance
• Exposure
• ISO settings
• Focus
...pretty much everything that's in your camera manual, but with a professional photographer as your mentor and a fantastic location as your inspiration.
Tips for making the most of your time start with ensuring you are at least familiar with your camera. To make the most of your time, it's best not to have to ask your instructor how to change basic settings or perform basic functions. Yes...they will almost certainly know how to help (especially for popular brands like Canon and Nikon), and they will be happy to do so, but a bit preparation means you can avoid wasting your time and make the most of the instructor's knowledge and experience. If you've not done so before, read the manual before your course. And bring it with you, just in case.
Make sure you bring the right equipment for your course. A fully charged battery and empty memory card are essentials; and spares of each are highly recommended. Sun screen, a hat, and water bottle, especially for sunny days, and a face mask just in case. Hand sanitiser might be a good idea, too.
As mentioned previously...bring your camera manual, plus those for your flash unit and any other equipment that you might need for your particular course. Night photography courses often need a tripod - check with us or the instructor in advance if you're not sure.
The course details normally include a list of required equipment. If in doubt, reach out! The pink button in the bottom right corner of every page gives you instant access to our support staff, with referrals to the photography instructors if required.
